Experience
The past three years I have spent in the classroom as a teacher. I have taught both general education and special education in grades K, 2, and 4. Outside of teaching, I led tutoring sessions and afterschool clubs, such as Readers Theatre Club, Running Club, and Wilderness Adventure Club. After all of my experience as an educator, I find there is no greater reward than to see students gain confidence and independence in their social and educational lives. This is the type of achievement I aim to produce with all of my students. I have also receive extensive training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) when I worked as an autism associate in both clinic and home-based therapy settings. ABA is a systematic approach to learning used to target specific goals with the use of learning theory. It is used primarily when teaching children with Autism, however, it can be translated to many different types of learners. I am happy to provide references or letters of approval upon request. Here is a segment out of my most recent letter from my previous school's principal, Mrs. Wilson, IPS 61: "Kelly has served as both a general education and special education teacher in kindergarten, second and fourth grades. She is always eager to think about new ways to serve her kids and this year, as a fourth grade special educator, she was no different. She worked with some of our lowest students who had continually showed little or no academic progress. Embracing the challenge, she sought guidance from her colleagues, used data to guide her decision making and worked relentlessly to serve her students. She utilized a data tracking system via google to progress monitor student growth and gauge the effectiveness of her instruction. As a result, her students have made some of the strongest gains of any special education kids in our school."
